Keep Thinking
Turning Leaves
Hard work though it is,
I'm trying to turn over a new leaf at the minute;
To be honest I never knew leaves could be such heavy things to turn,
but anyway.
Rather than walking when I have the time or someone else has the car,
I'm trying to make time to walk every day.
Sunday morning I was up early and the sky was brightening as I ate breakfast,
so off I went in shorts and tee-shirt.
Half way round it came on to rain
and continued until I was turning into Saint Martin's Road.
I was drenched!
Had it been raining when I left home I would not have bothered.
I came to feel a certain affinity with some of the athletes in Beijing who have turned in performances little short of inspirational in spite of the weather.
Like the Olympics, life doesn't always share its rewards without a degree of difficulty.
I'm reliably informed that a brisk three-quarters of an hour walking will significantly improve my health and mobility - whatever the weather.
I doubt I shall be competing in 2012
-at least not in the Olympics –
-but with a bit of luck and a following wind
-I shall still be wrestling life and faith –
and enjoying the rewards of the competition.
Life? If it was easy everyone would be doing it." Frank Bruno.
