Keep Thinking

Dear Friends,

I’m writing this before Christmas but conscious that it

will have come and gone by the time you read this!

Perhaps for a while we were able to forget some of the

complications of life and enjoy a festival that was simply

wonder-full

simple in its message of a baby’s birth;

wonderful in its revelation of God’s love for us.

Highlights of Christmas day for many parents are the moments when their children open their presents –

and then play happily with the cardboard boxes in which the toys came!

Or when they watch their children’s eager faces pressed to the window to watch a robin feeding on the bird-table outside.

  Jobless

  War

  Hostages

Life today is for many of us very complex.

Problems with jobs, finances and relationships are never far away

and we are constantly hearing of stress-related illness.

Through the media we are inevitably caught up in world affairs and

there seems no end to ‘man’s inhumanity to man’.

The progress of science bewilders and sometimes frightens us and

we often feel dread at what the future may bring.

At times our very faith is undermined.

To unwind I often go for a walk around the castle near to the manse, or up on the mountain.

I love to watch the children playing, running around, or making snowmen and sliding down the slopes on sledges this Christmas!

Even in this electronic age, children still love the simple activities – the wonder still goes on.

Trees are bare now, but soon will be bursting into life.

Days will begin to lengthen and the Spring will return.

The mystery of God’s creation surpasses all our understanding.

The wise and the learned may expound their theories,

but sometimes it may be enough simply to wonder and be glad!

Happy New Year!
